How the services are organized
Plumbing work splits into two kinds. Some jobs cannot wait: water is moving, a drain is backing up or a heater has failed in winter. Others can be planned, such as replacing old supply lines or adding a fixture.
The cards below list every service, and each links to a page with causes, methods and cost factors. This page explains how to tell which group your problem belongs to and what to expect from each. Emergency work covers the first group, and planned work is scheduled by phone. All of the work listed here is held to the Minnesota Plumbing Code, Minnesota Rules chapter 4714, and to the licensing standards of the state.
Problems that need the 24/7 line
Call right away if you see any of these, and shut off the water first when you can.
- A split or leaking pipe, covered under burst pipe repair.
- Sewage or gurgling at floor drains, which points to sewer line cleaning or sewer line repair.
- A slow or blocked drain that drain cleaning or hydro jetting can clear.
- A tank that leaks or a heater with no hot water, see water heater repair.
- A sump pit that overflows, see sump pump repair.
- A broken water line between the street and the house, handled as water service line repair.
Planned work you can schedule
Some jobs are better done on purpose than in a panic. A water heater installation or a move to a tankless water heater can be priced and scheduled ahead, and the same goes for repiping a house with failing pipes or installing new fixtures.
A sewer camera inspection belongs here too. It is the best way to learn the condition of a drain line before a backup forces the question, and it matters when you buy an older home. Same-day appointments are available when the schedule allows.
Water treatment and moisture control
Basement waterproofing deals with water that enters from outside, not from a pipe. Water softener installation is a choice about your water and your budget. Test your tap before deciding, since the water supply varies by town and by address. A softener also sends regeneration water to the drain and adds sodium, so it is worth weighing against what your test shows. Ask your city utility about its supply before you buy equipment.
Which group is my problem in?
If water is damaging something now, or sewage is involved, treat it as an emergency. If the issue is annoying but contained, such as a dripping faucet or a toilet that runs, it can usually wait for a scheduled visit. When in doubt, call and let the dispatcher decide with you.
Every job starts with a clear price
Whatever service you choose, the plumber states a clear price before work starts. Costs depend on access, parts and the scope of the problem, and each service page lists the factors that matter for that job. Work in homes and in commercial spaces is done by licensed plumbers, and you can verify any plumber's license at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry's Check a License lookup.
Emergency-first services
These problems cannot wait for a business day, so the line takes them at any hour.
Drain Cleaning
A cable machine or jetter clears sink, tub and floor drain clogs at the blockage itself instead of pushing it further down the line.
Water Heater Repair
Leaks, no hot water or strange noises from a tank unit are diagnosed first, so a repair is chosen only when it makes sense.
Water Heater Replacement
When a tank is leaking from the shell or past repair, a licensed plumber swaps it for a new unit sized to the household.
Leak Detection
Listening gear and thermal imaging locate hidden leaks in floors, walls and slabs so opening the surface is limited to the exact spot.
Hydro Jetting
High-pressure water scours grease, scale and roots from the inside of drain and sewer pipes, restoring flow that a cable alone cannot.
Sewer Line Repair
A camera shows where the main line is cracked, offset or collapsed, and the repair is matched to what the pipe actually needs.
Sewer Line Cleaning
Backups at floor drains and slow drains on every level often point to the main line, cleared and then checked by camera.
Burst Pipe Repair
A split supply line is isolated, cut out and replaced with fresh pipe and fittings so the water stays off and the fix lasts.
Water Service Line Repair
The pipe that brings water from the street or main into the house is located, repaired or replaced when it leaks or fails.
Toilet Repair
Running, leaking, clogged or rocking toilets are fixed at the cause, from a worn flapper to a cracked flange or failed seal.
Faucet Repair
Dripping, stuck or low-flow faucets get new cartridges, seats or supply lines, and a full replacement when the fixture is worn out.
Garbage Disposal Repair
A jammed, leaking or humming disposal is freed, resealed or replaced, and the drain under it is checked for clogs.
Sump Pump Repair
A pump that will not start, cycles constantly or runs without moving water is tested and repaired before the next thaw or storm.
Boiler Repair
Hydronic heating that loses pressure, leaks or fails to heat is diagnosed by a licensed plumber and brought back to working order.
Commercial Plumbing
Shops, offices, restaurants and apartment buildings can call the same line for urgent plumbing failures and scheduled commercial work.
Planned and scheduled services
These jobs are booked, with same-day appointments when available.
Water Heater Installation
A new tank water heater is set, connected and vented to suit the home, with required relief valves and any permit handled.
Tankless Water Heater
On-demand heaters are sized to your fixtures and flow needs, then installed with the gas, venting and water connections done correctly.
Sewer Camera Inspection
A drain camera on a push cable looks inside the line and records findings, which helps before a repair or purchase.
Repiping
Failing, leaking or outdated supply pipes are replaced with new copper or PEX, planned so walls and finishes are disturbed as little as possible.
Plumbing Installation
New sinks, toilets, showers, lines and fixtures are installed to code by licensed plumbers, with permits pulled where the city requires them.
Basement Waterproofing
Water that enters through a foundation or floor is traced and managed with drainage and sump systems rather than patched at the surface.
Water Softener Installation
A softener or filter is chosen from your own water test, installed with proper drain and bypass connections and explained in plain terms.
